Communal Enthusiasm

Maastricht

The Jan van Eyck Academy celebrates its 75th anniversary with the exhibition 'Communal Enthusiasm,' curated by Pádraic E. Moore, bringing together the work of alumni and archival materials.

Anniversary Exhibition
For 75 years, the Jan van Eyck Academy has welcomed artists, designers, curators, architects, writers, and other creative makers for residencies in Maastricht. To celebrate 75 years of artistic experimentation and critical thinking, curator and Jan van Eyck alumnus Pádraic E. Moore brings together work from Jan van Eyck alumni, advisors, staff, and directors, alongside technical remnants and administrative materials from the archive.

Communal Enthusiasm highlights specific trends and demonstrates that collaboration and communal enthusiasm have characterized the academy since its inception.
The exhibition tells the story of the secularization of art, the rise and fall of artistic trends, and the shift from craft-based education to discursive and research-oriented practices. Above all, this exhibition emphasizes the fundamental role of the Jan van Eyck Academy in envisioning alternative ways of working, thinking, and living.
