‘Jauchzet, frohlocket’ - who doesn't know the beautiful sounds of the opening chorus in Bach's Christmas Oratorio? As soon as the timpani, flutes, and oboes capture our attention and exuberant trumpets carry us into a cascade of joyfully tumbling violin figures, the magnificent musical celebration bursts forth with hope and expectation.
No other work is as closely connected to the Christmas story as Bach's Christmas Oratorio. He composed the six cantatas for the three Christmas days and the three subsequent Sundays. Each cantata tells its own story with its unique musical atmosphere. Ad Mosam Barok performs the Christmas Oratorio on period instruments, infused with a contemporary interpretation. Christmas wouldn't be complete without a ‘Jauchzet, frohlocket’!
