Discover Maastricht heritage during 'Heritage Unlocked'. Iconic buildings, such as Saint Servatius Basilica and City Hall, share their stories through guides or independent exploration, giving visitors insight into the history and significance of these monuments.

During TEFAF, Maastricht is buzzing with cultural activities. 'Heritage Unlocked' is a unique and special experience to discover the stories and history of a selection of monuments. On Tuesday 12 March, the following locations will open their doors to visitors between 18:00h and 22:00h:

  • Saint John Church
  • Dominican Church
  • City Hall
  • Dinghuis
  • Saint Servatius Basilica

Explore on your own
Experience Heritage Unlocked on your own by exploring the monuments independently. Choose your favourite location or explore all the monuments. Some sites have guided tours, while others are freely accessible.

Saint John's Church
Saint John's Church, also known as the 'Saint Jan of Maastricht,' adorns the Vrijthof with its striking red tower. This historic Protestant church, built of marl, offers various attractions. During Heritage Unlocked, Saint John's Church and its tower are freely accessible. The tower is open depending on the weather.

Dominican Church
'Bookstore Dominicanen' has been located in the historic Dominican Church of Maastricht since 2006. On March 12th, visitors can explore the church, visit the bookstore, and view a new exhibition opened during this evening between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm.

Hall
City hall, built on the Markt between 1659-1664 by Pieter Post, has a tower from 1684 with a carillon of 49 bells. The interior offers beautiful tapestries, stucco, ceiling paintings, and fireplace pieces. During Heritage Unlocked, two guided tours will be conducted by historian Joes Mimis. The tours start at:

  • 20:00h

The Dinghuis
During Heritage Unlocked, the Dinghuis is also open to visitors. You can enter the Dinghuis through the Maastricht Store on the ground floor. From here, guided tours will be conducted in small groups. A guide will take you through the building to the iconic clock on the 4th floor. Please note: there are many stairs to climb to the 4th floor. Please consider this.

Saint Servatius Basilica
The Saint Servatius Basilica, located on Maastricht's largest square, is an imposing and monumental church building. It is built on the grave of Saint Servatius and is considered the oldest surviving church in the Netherlands. During Heritage Unlocked, you can visit the church between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
