Upbeat concert Heiligdomsvaart Maastricht 2025: Chanting To Paradise

Maastricht

Get carried away by the music during ‘Chanting to Paradise’ and prepare for the Heiligdomsvaart Maastricht 2025!

The theme of the Heiligdomsvaart Maastricht 2025 is ‘Be a Bridge Builder’. Prior to this event, the J/M/ Vogl Foundation is organising the concert ‘Chanting to Paradise’, performed by musicians with strong ties to Maastricht.

The concert opens with a specially composed work by Margriet Ehlen for the occasion, combining the medieval Latin Servaas hymn with Emily Dickinson's poem ‘Chanting To Paradise’. The concert's message revolves around perseverance and fortitude.

Next will be Samuel Barber's Hermit Songs, a cycle of 10 songs for baritone and piano, based on poems by Irish monks. This will be followed by a sonatina for cello and piano by Maastricht composer Andrée Bonhomme, and John Tavener's impressive Svyati for chamber choir and cello.

The concert concludes with Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs, performed by baritone solo, the chamber choir and piano, based on poems by Anglican priest George Herbert.
