Kasteel Wijlre presents the solo exhibition Growing Poetics by artist Thierry Oussou. This exhibition features new and recent work by Oussou, including paintings, sculptures and installations. Especially for this occasion, Oussou will create a site-specific sculpture in the courtyard's gardens, made of natural materials from the nearby surroundings.
The exhibition is in line with Kasteel Wijlre's ambition to present young artists of international importance working in the Netherlands and to support new work. Oussou's works fit within the buitenplaats's programming, which focuses on the connection with nature and our relationship with the non-human living world.

Kasteel Wijlre presents the solo exhibition Growing Poetics by artist Thierry Oussou. This exhibition features new and recent work by Oussou, including paintings, sculptures and installations. Oussou's paintings, often on black paper and in life-size format, are characterised by an expressive style with distorted figures, faces and symbols. In his sculptures and installations, including the La Poésie series, he uses simple, natural materials to create spatial constellations that respond to the architecture of space.
Thierry Oussou (1988, Benin) lives and works in Amsterdam and Benin. He was a resident at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and received the Royal Prize for Painting in 2023. His work has been exhibited at the Centraal Museum Utrecht and at the Aichi Triennale in Japan, among others.
