The exhibition Blazing Fires at the Limburgs Museum explores the meaning and impact of fire through the ages. With over 30 paintings from the Rijksmuseum, including works by famous painters such as Jan Steen, Gerard Dou and Jozef Israëls, the exhibition offers a rich visual experience. Fire, once a mysterious and inexplicable phenomenon, became the engine of our civilisation and a tool that evokes strong feelings.
The exhibition highlights three historical themes characteristic of Limburg: the Domestic Fire reflected in Limburg pottery, the Destructive Fire visible in the many city sieges, and the Craft Fire that was central to the mining industry. The origin of all this lies in flint, which was found and used in Limburg.

Blazing Fires is an initiative of M6, a collaboration of six museums: Gemeentemuseum het Hannemahuis, Musea Zutphen, Westfries Museum, Museum Gouda, the Markiezenhof and the Limburgs Museum. The exhibition was previously on show in other museums, but concludes at the Limburgs Museum with a unique Limburg perspective.
