During the "Boekenweek", Maastricht celebrates its rich language and dialects with the theme ‘Je Moerstaal’. Bibliotheek Maastricht invites young and old to a series of special activities that celebrate the beauty of the Dutch and Limburgish languages. From inspiring lectures to surprising performances, there is something for everyone.

The Boekenweek kicks off with author Rob van Essen, winner of the Libris Literature Prize, sharing his stories in an engaging lecture. The musical accompaniment is provided by Dyanne Sleijpen. (16th March, 14:30-15:30)

Music, football, carnival, and language come together in a special lecture by Paul van Grinsven, Egide Niël, and Stefan Gybels, centered around musician Math Niël. A must for anyone who loves Limburgish culture and language. (22nd March, 15:00-16:00)

Experience a day full of language at the Maastricht Museum and the Natural History Museum Maastricht, where visitors with the Boekenweek gift get free admission. Discover the exhibition 'Pilgrimage to Maastricht' with unique guided tours in Limburgish, or use an audio tour in Maastricht dialect for a historical journey through the city. (23rd March, 11:00-12:00 & 15:00-16:00)

Be surprised by the spontaneous poetic performances of poet clown Lotte, who roams the library and treats visitors to beautiful Limburgish poems. (23rd March, 14:00-16:00)

New this year is the innovative app 'Speulentere Spelle' by Veldeke Krink Mestreech, which makes spelling in the Maastricht dialect easier and offers handy tools to learn and use the language better.
