Lin May Saeed's sculptures depict an imaginative world of liberated and dignified animals.
Lin May Saeed's retrospective exhibition at Wijlre Castle is the first solo exhibition of the German artist, who died in 2023, in the Netherlands. Saeed, who was known for her commitment to animal rights, created a unique visual language using Styrofoam as her favourite material. Her work show an imaginative world where animals have regained their dignity and freed themselves from human oppression.
The exhibition includes 20 to 25 works that offer a coherent overview of Saeed's oeuvre. Both critical and humorous, Saeed's work sheds new light on the complex relationship between humans and animals. With this exhibition, Wijlre Castle underlines its ambition to present internationally important artists who take a critical and imaginative look at the relationship between humans and nature.
In addition, a public programme will be organised in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, in which themes such as interspecies solidarity, animal rights and alternative human-animal relations will be discussed.
